What we like

  • Every Google TV feature including hands-free Assistant
  • Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and Dolby Atmos
  • 32 GB storage and Ethernet
  • Backlit remote with a finder button — rare at any price
  • The lowest price for this feature set

What gives us pause

  • Slightly slower processor than the Google TV Streamer
  • Plastic build feels like the price
  • Long-term software update cadence is uncertain
  • Sold primarily through Walmart, not always in stock online

Who it's for

Anyone who wants the Google TV experience without the Google price. It's the obvious choice for bedrooms, kids' rooms, and guest TVs, and a defensible main-TV choice if the Streamer's price stings.

What you get

The spec sheet reads like a flagship: 4K Dolby Vision, HDR10+, Dolby Atmos, Wi-Fi 6, Ethernet, 32 GB storage, far-field microphones for hands-free Assistant, and a backlit remote with a built-in speaker for the finder chime. At this price, nothing else comes close on paper.

In daily use

Performance is good rather than great — apps open a beat slower than on the Google TV Streamer, but never slowly enough to annoy. Picture quality matches rival boxes on the published spec sheet. Hands-free 'Hey Google' worked reliably from across the room.

The remote is the surprise

Backlit buttons, a finder function, dedicated app shortcuts, and TV power/volume control. This remote would be an upgrade purchase on other platforms; here it's in the box.

The honest concerns

Walmart's update history on onn devices is shorter than Google's or Apple's, and the box's processor has less headroom for future versions of Android TV. Expect a good few years rather than a decade.
