Whether you're setting up a new stick or moving it to a new network, joining Wi-Fi on Fire TV takes under five minutes. The same steps work on the Fire TV Stick Lite, Fire TV Stick, Fire TV Stick 4K, 4K Max and Fire TV Cube.

What you'll need

  • Your Fire TV remote
  • Your Wi-Fi network name and password
  • The Fire TV Stick powered on and showing the Home screen

The steps

  1. Open Settings

From the Fire TV Home screen, scroll to the gear icon on the right side of the menu bar and select it.

  2. Select Network

Choose Network. The stick scans and shows every wireless network in range.

  3. Pick your network

Highlight your Wi-Fi network name and press the Select button. If you don't see it, choose 'See All Networks' at the bottom or select Rescan.

  4. Enter the password

Use the on-screen keyboard to type the Wi-Fi password exactly — it is case-sensitive. Press the play/pause button to switch keyboard pages for symbols.

  5. Confirm the connection

The screen shows 'Connected' under your network name. Press Home. If an update is waiting, let it install before streaming.

Worth knowing

  • Fire TV sticks remember networks. If you move between two houses often, both networks stay saved.
  • WPS users: hold the WPS button on the router, then choose your network on the stick when it appears — some routers pair without a password.
  • Hotel or dorm Wi-Fi with a login page works: after connecting, the stick offers a browser window to complete the sign-in.

Common mistakes

  • Typing the password with the wrong capitalization.
  • Connecting to a neighbor's similarly named network by mistake.
  • Forgetting that 5 GHz network names sometimes differ from the 2.4 GHz one on the same router.
